Extracurricular Activities and After/Before School Academics Return to I.S. 5!
We are very excited to share that extracurricular activities, sports and after and before school academics are returning to I.S. 5 this year. Following the difficult budget landscape at the beginning of the school year, we are now prepared and financially sound to open opportunities for our students to enjoy and shine in recreation and enrich their studies and hone their learning skills during academic supports. In the month of December, we will be sending important information home about our offerings, the sign-up process and forms that are needed for your child's participation. Please keep in mind that space will be limited, and if you receive a spot in a club, team or academic support session, your child's consistent attendance is crucial! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, Mrs. Nepogoda, or to our AP of Recreation and After/Before School Academics, Ms. McLean.

Principal Corner
November Gratitude and Winter Horizons!
Dear I.S. 5 Families,
It is with tremendous appreciation that I write this to our parents, guardians and families. At I.S. 5, we are honored to work in true partnership with you for the wellbeing and success of our students. As a season of gratitude and blessings is now upon us, I personally want to thank each of you for allowing us to be a part of your child's journey and entrusting the I.S. 5 community with the amazing responsibility of inspiring them to be their best selves each day. It is important to our school's vision to also impart to our students the power of giving back, compassion and bringing joy to others in need through our own modeling and goodness of heart. In November and December, our school will be holding the City Harvest Food Drive and The Hance Foundation Toy Drive which welcomes donations from our staff and community members alike. As always, we, too, continue to be here for you! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything!
In Gratitude,
Mrs. Nepogoda

This year, our 8th Grade Trip will be held on Wednesday May 8, 2024 at Adventureland Amusement Park located in Farmingdale, NY. For more information, check out their website at https://adventureland.us/.
The cost of the trip will be $70 per student. The price includes a luxury bus with a bathroom, unlimited rides at the amusement park, and buffet lunch.
Students must report to school on time the day of the trip, and will return in time for afternoon dismissal. We will travel on luxury coach buses and I.S. 5 staff members will act as chaperones.
Money orders for the exact amount of $70 made payable to I.S. 5 and permission slip should be placed in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class, and Grade 8 Trip written on the envelope by December 22, 2023. ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT TURN IN A MONEY ORDER BY December 22, 2023 WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE TRIP!
Students must be prepared with money order and signed paperwork in order to reserve a spot.
Money orders and permission slips will be collected by Ms. Breen ONLY.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the trip, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Ebony McLean Courtney Breen
